Rolling Back to Tummy

Alyssa has been working very hard at rolling over. A couple of weeks ago, she was rolling tummy to back, and last night, she rolled back to tummy. All weekend, I thought she would do it, but she would get to her side and just chill there. She'll probably be a side sleeper later as she looked so relaxed in that postition.
Last night, as soon as she figured out that all she needed to do was flip her big 'ol heavy head over, she did it! After she did it, she rolled back over as well. She's going to get dizzy if she keeps going back and forth like that.
She was so proud of herself, that she fell right asleep just a few minutes later.

Today, at approximately 4:30pm, Alyssa rolled over for the first time! She had a great day playing hookie from school. She talked all day. I was running out of things to talk to her about.

She played on her Einstein mat for over an hour just yappin' away. She also had a dirty diaper, so I was expecting her to become fussy at any time, but she never did. After an hour, I decided it was time to change that diaper.

We came back to the mat, but I had her in my lap. She rolled her head forward like she has been doing this past week, so I put her on her tummy on the mat. Somehow, she got her arm underneath herself and started moving. At one point she got on her side. At that time, I called Mike upstairs.

We both cheered her on to see if she would continue the roll. She kept going back down to her tummy and then back to her side. She got really quiet for a couple of minutes, no talking.

Then, all of a sudden, she was on her back!! The look on her face was priceless. She looked very confused. We were clapping and cheering and she looked very confused and like she wanted to cry. Then she just smiled and started talking again like nothing had happened.

It was great!! It's a once in a life time moment on a once every four year day... figures...

Alyssa Giggles for the First Time!

Tonight, at about 6pm, Alyssa giggled for the first time! We were in the bathroom making faces at ourselves in the mirror. According to wakeboarding rules, you never really achieve a new trick unless you can replicate it four times... it took a few minutes, but she did it four times.

She also just giggled with Daddy while playing on the couch. It's such a soft, cute sound. It was even more funny hearing the giggles in the middle of her hiccups!

Alyssa Turns 3 Months Old

Alyssa turns 3 months old today. It's been a very busy week. She started daycare last week, and she did very well. She went back on Monday, and at 2am, we were awoken with a cough. By morning, that cough wasn't sounding very good, but she had no Fever and was smiling and happy, so off to daycare we go.

I asked who was sick that got my little Alyssa sick. She said all the babies had some kind of drainage and congestion... great...

Alyssa played hookie Wednesday and Thursday in order to get a little better. The cough still sounds pretty bad, but no congestion as it's all broken up. We have to suction the nose 2-3 times a day, but still very playful and happy as you can see from all the pictures in the posts below.

I took to the doctor's to weigh her on Friday so we could have an official 3 month weigh-in... So, last month she was 9 lbs 9 oz... you would think she would be in the 10 pound range, but she completely skipped the 10's and went straight to 11!! She's officially 11 lbs 0.5 oz and 22 3/4 inches long. Boy is she growing!

I woke up this morning with a very red throat and the sniffles so I am getting what she has. Mike and Dallas Grandma and Grandpa are not sick... We'll see how far this daycare bug spreads.

The doctor confirmed that she doesn't want Alyssa on food until her 4 month appt on March 17. She will also increase the Zantac amount based on weight. She's still only eating 3-4 oz at each sitting, and only 2 oz at 9:30pm. Even with all the spitting up, she managed to gain plenty of weight, which is good. She's not just fitting into some of her clothes, but she's outgrowing them also!

I might be biased, but she's the cutest baby ever!

Alyssa started daycare last week. It wasn't a full week because we played hookie on Friday. I then took her again on Monday. Monday night, she was coughing at 2am. I was livid! 5 days at daycare and already sit?!

She had no fever, and was happy as ever, so I took her back yesterday. I walked in and asked which kid had been coughing on mine. They felt really bad, but apparently, they were all sniffly so no big deal to leave. She sounded worse last night, but she slept through the night, 9 hours!

Got up this morning, still happy as ever, boy does she smile a lot now. I stuck her in her bouncey seat in the smallest bathroom we have with all the doors closed while I showered. I was hoping for the steam to knock all the "crud" loose. That worked!! I suctioned it all out, and she was even happier!

She then played for about an hour, and decided she wanted to take a nap at about 8:30. At this time, I'm thinking, if she falls asleep, we're playing hookie today, and I'm not taking her in. Grandma wants a Grandma say tomorrow, so is it OK for a 12 week old to play hookie from school 2 days in a row? I feel a little guilty...

It's still early, and she can easily go to school when she wakes up from this nap, probably at about 9:30 since her naps are only an hour long.... but I'm thinking 2 days home will help her get better sooner. Or, will she get better at the same pace since everyone who is already sick will also be getting better each day? Such a hard decision.

I can't say Alyssa enjoyed her day at the photographers... but I can't blame her too much. The photographer wanted her to lay on her tummy on a towel and lift her head on command. Ummm, yeah, I repeat, she's 2 months old! She's not going to do that. Instead, she decided to spit up on his pink sheer thingy...

We did get a few good shots, mostly from me holding her and comforting her while nekkid, which was not the plan for the pictures, but they turned out good. We tried poses in the cute outfit her Grandma Cathy got her with a fur coat. We also tried pictures with the preppy argyle sweater she got from her Uncle Erick... Nope, she liked her diaper!

What do you think?? Cute, huh?? I don't think we'll be back for month 3, but we'll be there for month 4!

Alyssa is 2 months today! She got her pictures taken today, however, they will not be available for pick up until January 29. I thought I would be able to leave with them. I am so excited about them.
Alyssa was not very happy for the pictures. She calmed down at the very end when the photographer said he was done with that disk. I asked if he could quicky take a few more, but he couldn't... that's what you get for a free sitting fee!
Anyway, I'll post the pictures when I get them. Funny thing is that the best pictures were candid shots where I am trying to calm her down.

2 Month Appointment

Today was Alyssa's 2 month appt though she'll be 2 months tomorrow. It was a great appt until the end. She was very good for the nurses and the doctor...

She measured at 9 lbs 9 oz and 22 inches with her head at 38 1/4 cm. She is in the 25% group for weight and length, and 50% for her head, but those numbers are inline with how she measured at birth... we thought her head was getting so big from us always telling her how pretty she is!!

She got some baby Tylenol for the first time, cherry, in anticipation for the 4 shots she was to receive.

At the end, two nurses come in, they give her the medicine in her mouth first, which she spit part out. Then, they each grabbed a leg and injected two shots each. Alyssa did NOT like that! Her face was the darkest red-purple I have ever seen on her before. But, after 10 seconds, she took a breath, calmed down, and fell asleep almost immediately. I think the Tylenol made her drowsey, so I'm so glad I gave it to her.

Alyssa Sleeping Through the Night

WOW! I thought Saturday night was a fluke when I woke up at 6am and Alyssa had slept for 8 1/2 hours. Then, I woke up this morning at 6am and Alyssa had slept for 9 hours!! Yes, she went to bed at 9pm, and woke up at 6am!!

This is AWESOME!!

Previously, she had several days of 5 and 6 hours, and even a couple of 7 hour nights, but nothing consistant. Hopefully, 2 nights in a row can show her a pattern, and then we'll be well on our way to sleeping for 10-12 hours.

She's getting her 2 month shots tomorrow morning and her 2 month professional pictures on Wednesday. She has a very busy week!

Weight Loss Challenge

Baby Alyssa is now 6 weeks and 3 days old and is cute as ever! Tomorrow starts a new year and I made a challenge with one of my clients to lose some weight. The first one to lose 20 pounds wins!! Wins what? Not sure... maybe it's just bragging rights.

As of today, I've lost 30 of my pregnancy pounds. Yes, I still have enough to lose to lose 20 pounds for the challenge. However, since I've already lost a big chunk, it's going to be much harder to lose the next 20 pounds quickly, so I'm gearing up to lose.

Anyone else want to join the challenge so I have more people to compete against to help me lose the weight? Let me know!!

Aunt Tiffany and Cousin Lindsey met Alyssa for the first time this weekend. Lindsey fed her almost every time... though she didn't really like the feeding, burping, or crying part. She just wanted Alyssa in her lap to hold her.

Grandma Cathy saw Alyssa for the first time since she was 4 days old, and boy has she grown a lot since then. She is currently 5 weeks and 3 days old! I have my 6 week follow up appointment on Friday and I should get ok'd for full activity, like I've slowed down in the first place...

As many of you remember, I was blogging while in labor. That was lots of fun! No epidural until 2:30am. I'm not sure many of you know this, but according to the anesthesiologist, I'm "high strung" and I "don't know how to relax" so the epidural took 45 minutes to be put in place. Yes, 45 minutes. Not 4-5 minutes like most people, but actually 45 minutes! Granted, I have a high pain tolerance, but man oh man, I have no idea how people do it without the epidural. I wanted to ring this guy's neck for taking so long!

Anyway, labor was less than 14 hours which is good on a first delivery. Actual pushing labor was only 1 hour 14 minutes. I was on oxygen because the baby's heartrate was dropping during contractions. Well, the oxygen was making me a little light-headed and apparently my eyes were rolling in the back of my head a couple of times and I almost passed out. The nurse told me to relax several times and just let a couple of the contractions go by without pushing. My response?

"I'm not here to rest, I'm here to push and get her out of me!!" They all thought that was funny so I took over. Yes, the control freak in me started having to tell them when I was going to push because they didn't want to tell me when to push as they wanted me to rest. My doctor thought I would be pushing for about 3 hours, and out pops the head. He tells me that she has a ton of hair. That freaked me out because I was expecting bald since I had no heart burn. Boy (girl), does she have a lot of hair... and it's DARK! Mike and I are both fair skinned with auburn (red) hair. Granted, Mike was blonde as could be when he was younger, and I was bright red, but over the years, both of us got darker. I guess she's going to do the opposite.

Her eyes are this very dark blue-grey color, which I know can change in the next couple of years. I have brown and Mike has hazel. I wonder which way she'll go... thus far, she doesn't look like either one of us.

We also had our first scare. She was almost hospitalized for dehydration and losing 12% of her initial body weight, and 10% is typically the highest end doctors will tolerate. We had to swtich from breast to bottle for a day, and she gained 5.5 oz just in one day, and we'll go back to the breat (too much info?) at her next feeding in a couple of hours.

She's gorgeous and a high acheiver already! She can push off my shoulders and chest, she can stand up and take a few steps on my stomach and chest, and she bobs her head to music. I think the bobbing of her head is because I would beat my stomach like a drum when I listened to music in the car.

Anyway, I could go on and on. Instead, here are some more pictures!!

Water Broke- At Hospital in Labor

No one thought I would actually do it, but here I am in labor at the hospital and I'm posting a blog!!!

My water broke at 7:20pm Central time, and it's currently 11:45pm. I'm on a Pitocin drip to help increase the contractions for more consistency.

I'm SOOOO thirsty but no fluids allowed. My doctor said it was ok, but the anesthesiologist person said no... I can eat popsicles though.

I'll post again after the baby gets here!! YEAH!!

Doctor's Appt this morning

This has been a very frustrating weekend... still no baby. After spending 9 hours at the hospital Saturday night into Sunday, we were back at the hospital Sunday night at 10:30pm...

Still no baby! The on-call doctor was just so worried about when my doctor would be back in town and she seems "scared" to so anything. I did go to my regular doctor this morning and told him all about the weekend. He said that he believes that doctor is more used to working with HMOs and not PPOs and she was acting accordingly. I was like, she should have asked what my insurance was if she was concerned about it.

Either way, the doctor said it could be any day, maybe even today. He said my cervix is "favorable" and in great position.

We're very excited, but for a control freak like me, I hate not knowing which date it would be!! I feel like I've lost all control!! Is she a teenager already?? LOL

Back at Hospital Sunday Night

Last night, we headed back to the hospital. I was given a list of things that if they happened, I was supposed to call the doctor again. The things that worried me were the lack of fetal movement, the fact that contractions were less than 5 minutes apart and very intense around 3:30 that afternoon, but by 5, they were much further apart and not as intense, and also the diarrhea came back...

So, Dr. Gomez sent me back up there around 10:30pm to be monitored for an hour. Everything was fine, and we were home and in bed before midnight. Baby's heartbeat was much slower, into the 120's instead of the normal 140-150's, but they said it was OK.

I was instructed to move my Wednesday appt with Dr. Downey to today, so I'm waiting for the office to open. We'll see!

Spent the Night in the Hospital- No Baby

Yesterday, I started having some pretty good contractions. About 9pm, I noticed they were about 6-7 minutes apart. I called the on-call doctor since mine is out of town. She told me to give it an hour. I gave it 2 hours...

At midnight, we gathered all the stuff needed, and we headed to the hospital. Contractions were coming 1-2 minutes apart and 4-5 minutes apart... but didn't dilate past 2cm, so they just sent me home. I was there for 9 hours!

Being sent home was good because I can actually eat something as I'm starving, but I don't like being sent home because the contractions are so close, how do I know when I should go back up there??

Oh well, I'll figure it out. Hopefully she comes today. PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for me!!

Week 38- BabyHarris Weekly Update

Well, I just got back from the doctor's... I'm a couple of days early of 38 weeks, but my doctor is going to a wedding and will be gone from Thursday thru Sunday, so I had to have my appt today.

I'm having contractions, but they are not consistant. They are either 20-25 minutes apart or they're more like 40-45 minutes apart. We need to get those closer together!

I'm about 2cm dilated, but still not enough to strip the membranes to do much of anything. It's another week of waiting, as I don't really want to go into labor with him gone and get stuck with a doctor that I don't know.

I've tried almost every trick out there, including a couple of things that were suggested from others commenting on my blog like working in the yard, and nothing... I heard a few days ago that eggplant parmesan can put you into labor, so that's for dinner tonight! I made it earlier and I'm just waiting until 4:30pm to put it in the oven to bake it. I love eggplant parmesan, but Mike doesn't, so I did double duty, as the nice wife I am, and made him chicken parmesan.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me!! Doctor doesn't leave town until Thursday around noon, so there is still time to have her tomorrow before he leaves!!

Week 37- BabyHarris Weekly Update

So frustrating, so frustrating!!! At today's appointment, it looks like she is just "baked" enough.

I am retaining so much water, it's starting to concern my doctor, but still not signs up pre-eclampsia. My hands are so red and I can barely type at times because my fingers are so swollen, I can barely bend them, especially in the mornings. My knees are getting much worse and it's hurting to walk. Blood is pooling behind my right knee which is causing more pain.

However, blood pressure is still fine, 118/60 so he sees no reason to actually induce as he still thinks it will lead to a C-Section. It's very nice of him to be so concerned about not performing a C-Section, whereas other doctors probably wouldn't care.

He hooked me up to a monitor for about 10 minutes to check activity and such. Apparently, I am having contractions, and I'm like, "that's" a contraction? I've been having those pains for a couple of weeks now, but I guess they're not strong enough to make a difference, but at least it makes me feel better to know that I actually am having contractions.

Diagnosis: SEX

I asked him if I could just acquire some sperm and insert. He laughed. He said he had never heard of anyone suggesting that. He said most people go to a sperm bank to become pregnant, not to become un-pregnant.

So frustrating... maybe she doesn't want to come until she has a name... looks like I've got a stubborn one on my hands!!

Today marks Week 37

Yes, today marks week 37 in this fabulous adventure of weight gain! However, my doctor's appointment isn't until tomorrow morning at 9am. Mike's company is throwing a lunch shower for us and the only appt time would have been 1:30pm and there was no way I was going to get on a scale right after a big lunch as we all know how skewed the numbers would be.

I'm feeling quite a bit of pressure so hopefully she's almost here! My bag is almist done being packed. Not really sure what else I'll need until it's time. I can't pack a phone, laptop, camera, batteries, or chargers until we're heading out the door because I need those things everyday. Mike still needs to put some of his things in the bag for in case there's a slumber party at the hospital!

I'm walking A LOT, and I'm told that helps. Oscar sure is enjoying all the walks, especially with the cooler weather.

I'll post an update after my appt tomorrow. Oh, and we might actually be getting closer with picking a name... Can anyone suggest any "good" 1 syllabole names for a middle name, except not Ann, Lynn, Leigh, Fae, Mae, Rae, Rose...

BabyHarris Update 10/25/2007- 36 weeks

Today was my 36 week appointment for BabyHarris (still no name, but we might be getting closer). We're right around the corner now!!

My blood pressure is still low, at 98/56, even after all the stresses of this past week. I'm very surprised!

My blood work came back from last week's appt and my white blood cell count is out of range, high, and so is something else. The nurse said that white blood cells go up when the body is trying to fight off infection. My doctor is not worried because he said that it's typical for someone at this stage of the pregnancy to have a higher white blood cell count... maybe my body is fighting the flu shot I received a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, he checked the cervix for the first time, and I'm dilated at 1 cm and 50% efaced. This means, I have a LONG way to go to get to 10 cm dilated!!

He also noticed that I'm very swollen. He walked in the room and was just staring at my face asking if everything was ok. He said my face was very swollen, so he immediately checked my legs and feet for preeclampsia, but I don't have that, which is good! Apparently I'm just retaining a lot more water than he's used to seeing in such a short time. I also noticed my "chubby" face a couple of days ago when I looked in the mirror. I just figured it was all catching up to me and my face was finally seeing some effects.... it must be water retention!!

Anyway, next appt is next Friday at 9am. Hopefully I'll be more like 4 cm dilated so we can get this train a movin'!!!

Week 32 Doctor's Appointment

I now go to the doctor every two weeks, so I had my week 32 appt this morning. Blood pressure has gone up a little from 96/52 up to 100/60. Still not "high", but it's higher. Much higher than the day I was 98/42!!

The scale almost broke, but they have a spare in the back!! LOL

The heartrate for the baby dropped from a consistant 154 down to 143. She must have just fallen asleep since she was moving a lot right before the appt, but was still as can be as soon as I was taken back to one of the rooms.

My uterus messured at 32 weeks, so we're right on schedule there too.

I also received my flu shot. Everyone who will be around the baby for long (or even short) periods of time needs to get a flu shot!! Yes, MOM, that includes you!!

Baby Shower

The baby shower was on Saturday. It was a lot of fun. I think Mike had more fun than he was going to allow himself to have. Only half the people we invited showed up, and some people who gave a yes on the RSVP didn't show up, but it was still a lot of fun with the people that were there.

Many great gifts. Some include a high chair, bottles, books, car items, and the best, not to play favorites, was the "cake". This cake was made of diapers, onesies, socks, hats, spoons, cups, pacifiers, and a couple of stuffed animals with one being a teether animal. I didn't want to tear it apart, but had a lot of fun doing it! I'll post a picture later, as I haven't downloaded my pictures yet.

We had a cupcake cake that was half vanilla and half chocolate. YUM!

BabyHarris Update

Today I am 32 weeks along! Time sure went by fast at the beginning, but now the last few weeks have been dragging along!

Since I'm just starting this, I'll need to backtrack a little. Here's a picture at about 8 weeks:

Other things that have happened are that I failed the Glucose test by 2 points at week 27, and had to go in and take a 3 hour Diabetes test. In order to have accurate results, it requires fasting for 12 hours, and also nothing to eat or drink during the three hour test. Making a pregnant woman not eat or drink for over 15 hours is just cruel!!

I also found out at week 27 that I'm allergic to the baby. Yes, allergic to the baby!! It's called PUPPP (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy). There is no known cause and no known cure. It happens in about 1 in 200 first time pregnancies (0.5%) in which 70% of those have boys. Since I'm having a girl, I've defied the odds! It's supposed to be like chicken pox where it doesn't reoccur, but you never know!

For the time being, I'm doped up on anti-histamines and cortisone cream mixed with anti-itch cream, and I'm doing better, I didn't really sleep during weeks 26-30, but now my body is figuring out how to sleep through the itch, and I'm getting more rest.

Andrea, one of my friends that I've known since third grade, threw me a baby shower on Sept 8. It was a lot of fun and BabyHarris got a lot of cool things!
